ECU Homecoming Review (2K10)

Wow, what a weekend! ECU has never let me down when it comes to creating and reflecting on monumental moments. This past weekend was no different. From B. Paiz's hilarious flashback moment at the Chop House to the "Hot Mess Dressed Girls" at the social functions. Let's not forget the die hard Pirate fans who painted themselves with household paint and passed out from 10 times the normal limit of liquor consumption. Classic ECU you've gotta love it!

Now you all know that I couldn't leave you with that blanket commentary without giving you my homecoming drill list.

My disclaimer as a journalist the below is all true.

Drill # 1 i'm sure you've all noticed by now that you have at least 10 new FB friend request since Saturday. i bet you only remember 3 of them. if we weren't cool in the 90's are we really gonna be FB friends in the 2000's? just food for thought.

Drill # 2 if you didn't speak to me 10 years ago and you know that you acted stank, am I suppose to give you a high 5 and a chest bump at the next homecoming because you had a sudden change of stankness? just food for thought.

Drill # 3 if somebody didn't recognize you because of the 30-70 pounds that you've gained please don't inbox them on FB and say you were acting funny, why didn't you speak? maybe you don't look the same... crickets. just food for thought.

Drill # 4 if you enrolled for a little while and didn't graduate from ECU and you still hold it down at all the social functions, I'M NOT MAD AT YOU! KEEP COMING! just food for thought.

Drill # 5 i think it's somethings in the water in Wilson! shout out to WIDE AWAKE! just food for thought.

Drill # 6 some are pushing mid to late 30's dental awareness has to be on the list, right? just food for thought.

Drill # 7 if you have 8 bad kids you will not get your old college boo back right? just food for thought.

Drill # 8 for all the greeks that showed up to any and every social function BIG SHOUT OUT for showing the youngins how to carry a classy weekend. we appreciate you for it. just food for thought.

Drill # 9 we are all to old to get to the party at 12 am now. for those that work you're normally asleep by then. i saw about 5 of you taking power naps. food for thought.

Drill # 10 forget drills 1-9 let's comeback and do it again! It was great seeing you all!

Fences

Several days ago I stopped to talk to one of my neighbors about a vacant private pool property in our neighborhood. We briefly shard our perspectives on the what if's of the property, and the countless possibilities for the local children if it were open. Needless to say many of the residents where we live share the same vision. Ironically days after that conversation, I had the pleasure of witnessing two middle school aged girls jumping the fence to play basketball at the property. Usually I wouldn't think much of this observation but being a father with two daughters, I couldn't help but notice. Especially when they're no trespassing signs posted everywhere.  However, me thinking like a rational adult, I had to quickly remind myself to think like a kid and note that the fence obstacle wasn't going to be the girls end all for getting some shots up.  On the heels of the conversation with my neighbor it was confirmation that we're all on one accord. My Why!

Not long ago Sean "P. Diddy" Combs played the leading role in the television movie, " A Raisin in the Sun".  I posted a blog on my myspace page in response to his characters', character.  I talked about his drive and determination to succeed.  It was amazing to watch the movie in 2008 after having read the original screenplay from the 50's.   I'm often asked what is it that motivates me to do what I do besides money.  If you look below at the photos the story tells itself.  Trinity, NC is where I lived until I was about 9 0r 10 years old. Most of the homes there are still like the ones in the photos below.   I took these stills about 5 years ago, I'm glad I did. They are a constant reminder of how important it is to stay humble.  They remind of the importance of a sound education.  They remind me to always respect hard work.
