A Mother's Words Never Die, A Letter From Mom

When I was kid I remember most adults spending their days telling me what I should be and how things should go in order for me to be successful.  Needless to say a lot of those people were wrong.  However, there was one lady that spent her entire life showing me how life should go.  She taught me what sacrifice and unconditional love was all about.  I met her in August of 1977.  It was a real cool day.  After a long day of pain and pushing she finally mustard the strength to reveal my face.

That was the day that I met my mother.  From there we spent 29 years together laughing, crying, learning and praying that life would be kind to us.  Life has indeed been kind.  The journey was one that many had an opportunity to witness.  In January 2006 her number was called, she was drafted to play for the team of Heavenly All-American Moms.  She left us here to carry on a legacy and the traditions of the many generations before us.  

So today November 5, 2012 on what would have been her 58th birthday I'm celebrating her life, legacy and the words that she wrote to me my sophomore year in college.

Mom's Words

Hi J.J., 
Just a few lines to let you know that I'm thinking about you.  Hopefully I will see you this weekend for parents and family day.  All is well on this end, working hard and keeping the faith. I hope you're doing well.  I know school is tough right now but say a little prayer and keep the faith  The varsity team is really struggling this year so know how valuable you Ronnie and Geneno were. When you loose good leaders in a group you find yourself wondering around like a heard of sheep and that's what they looked like Friday night.  Every time I go to a game it almost brings tears to my eyes to not see you on the field.  You have made me one proud mom for being such a great son.  I really miss you, but you're right where I want you to be, getting a good education.  Things are going well here, I pray for you every night that the Lord will keep you strong and direct you along the way.  Danielle and Jim are fine.  Well I must close for now for I'm getting sleepy. I want to go to church tomorrow.

The Money Shot

The "Money Shot". It's not the type of shot where you look to get paid. It's the one that tells the largest story with the least amount of words. Today as I drove through Pen Lucy park, I saw this homeless lady at the stop light. I've driven through here daily for years and today was the first time I'd ever seen this lady. She was as worn as the soles of her shoes. She appeared to have the conscious mind of a 6 year old child. I only had about 20 seconds to capture the moment. A Day At Gus's

A Day At Gus's It's not everyday that we get to experience great food let alone a great atmosphere to eat in. I'm a southern guy so you know I like good food and even better service.  Gus's is that spot for me.
