The HP Way, The Adam Mowery Project

Never in my life have I been an avid reader. However, this year I've made it a point to become one. Aside from reading the Bible I picked up The HP Way by David Packard, one of the original owners of the Hewlett Packard Company, and Black Faces In White Places by Randal Pinkett the first African American winner of the Celebrity Apprentice. I purchased these two books on the same day and little did I know that it would be the perfect marriage of things to read.

Going into 2011 the economy was down and so were people. I took an unstable time as a personal challenge to be more creative. This meant I had to increase my working knowledge of the business of business and redirect my attention to forging new and meaningful relationships. With my new reading material I've learned a great deal about both elements that I mentioned above. In ten years of being in the visual media world I've worked with who I believe are the best of the best in the industry. However, there is more undiscovered talent that I haven't been exposed to.

In the, The HP Way David Packard made mention of witnessing the details at which his partners observed one another's work. He said they were able to disagree and realign after every intense conversation. Randal Pinkett, does the same thing in his book but in a very different way. He speaks more along the lines of Oprah's "ah hah moments. Black Faces In White Places addresses the strategies that minorities have had to use to be great over the course of time. Fortunately, those strategies don't exclude other races. He's grown to understand that color grid is what it is. While realizing that it does exist.

I too agree and understand all of the above, but I've chosen to see the picture in color and black & white. Being the CEO of Goal Line Media and Minority Partner of the greiBO CRU (gray-bo); I've learned that our talents are our talents but the skill sets extend beyond what we know. Our greatest attributes are recognized by those that we align ourselves with.

So with all of this new wealth of knowledge that I've been gaining I decided that it was time to forge relationships with like minded individuals. Anyone that knows me knows that I care deeply about my hometown of High Point, North Carolina. That's where I wanted to begin the journey of growth. I went down my mental roll call of great talents that I know there. Only one stood out, Adam Mowery. Adam is a classically trained photographer that understands photos beyond "taking a picture". I've studied his work for years in the local portrait studios, print ads and even in the vintage establishment around the Triad.

Just like any other journalist naturally I begin doing my research on his complete body of work. I studied for months. Way more than I ever did in college. I'm glad I did. In January I approached him about signing on as the Goal Line Media's Visual Media Specialist. Adam walked cautiously as he made the walk to the partnership side of business. That was my first great feeling about where we were headed. From the very first decision made on our behalf I had the pleasure of knowing that when he made decision that they would be well though out.

So this is the introduction to the Adam Mowery Project. I'd like to welcome Adam Mowery publicly to the Goal Line Media Unit. Stay tuned we've got more for you.

The HP Way.

The Players That You Never Knew

With the opening Friday Night of the 2014 high school football season on the horizon, every barbershop in every small-town in America is probably buzzing with the conversation of who are greatest high school football players of all time.  It's a valid question considering the pool of talent that passes through most small towns.  People often wonder where these guys end up long after their playing days are over.  I've often asked the same question about many of my ex-teammates. Two in particular, Darius Brewnington and Kenny Shaw. If you were an athlete in the early 1990's they were arguably considered two of the most influential athletes in North Carolina's rich high school football history.  Unfortunately, like many other high profile athletes life happens.  However, even with the growing pains of life every man has his day of redemption.  With Darius and Kenny being former teammates of mine I wanted to see for myself who they are 20 years removed fr...

Fences

Several days ago I stopped to talk to one of my neighbors about a vacant private pool property in our neighborhood. We briefly shard our perspectives on the what if's of the property, and the countless possibilities for the local children if it were open. Needless to say many of the residents where we live share the same vision. Ironically days after that conversation, I had the pleasure of witnessing two middle school aged girls jumping the fence to play basketball at the property. Usually I wouldn't think much of this observation but being a father with two daughters, I couldn't help but notice. Especially when they're no trespassing signs posted everywhere.  However, me thinking like a rational adult, I had to quickly remind myself to think like a kid and note that the fence obstacle wasn't going to be the girls end all for getting some shots up.  On the heels of the conversation with my neighbor it was confirmation that we're all on one accord. So, ...

My Why!

Not long ago Sean "P. Diddy" Combs played the leading role in the television movie, " A Raisin in the Sun".  I posted a blog on my myspace page in response to his characters', character.  I talked about his drive and determination to succeed.  It was amazing to watch the movie in 2008 after having read the original screenplay from the 50's.   I'm often asked what is it that motivates me to do what I do besides money.  If you look below at the photos the story tells itself.  Trinity, NC is where I lived until I was about 9 0r 10 years old. Most of the homes there are still like the ones in the photos below.   I took these stills about 5 years ago, I'm glad I did. They are a constant reminder of how important it is to stay humble.  They remind of the importance of a sound education.  They remind me to always respect hard work. They remind me of what strong families can do with little to no resources.  These photos are my moti...
